| Be sure the correct resistor values are in place for this exercise.
RESET
Just to be sure that it is working at all, touch the Reset Probe from
pin 15 to Voltage. That should bring bring the count back to Output
0 and pin 3 will go high while all other outputs go low.
ENABLE
Just to be sure that it is working at all, touch the Enable Probe from
pin 13 to Voltage. That should FREEZE the count. Whatever the active
output is, it will reamian high, and the clock signal at pin 14 will be
ignored. There will be no advance in the count.
1. When Enable (pin 13) is connected to Voltage (High) this freezes
the count.
2. The count should freeze on that output.
3. If the rolldown has stopped, connecting the Enable to Hi will appear
to have no effect.
4. If you keep the Enable High when you start the rolldown, it will
appear that nothing happens. The current output remains high. Nothing
moves. The scanning camera system is easy to understand, and very
inexpensive. It sells for as little as $200. Amazing!
5. Pin 1 is related to output 5.
6. That will produce a cycle through outputs 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 0, 1, 2,
....
7. The carry out will remain Hi constantly in this set up.
8a. The clock input (pin 14) is conditioned by the state of the output
of the 4046 chip, high or low.
8b. Reset must be set low, or there will be no count. If it is
high, the count returns to Output 0.
8c. Enable must be kept low as well. When it is set high, the
count freezes at that Output.
10. The 4017 controls which channel of the 4066 becomes active.
The 4066 switches between channels that
feed to the recording or observation unit.
