Part I Exercise Key
  • Lesson 6
    • 1.
      2.
      3. Results here will vary from pencil to pencil, person to person.
      a) About 100,000
Tolerance on carbon ring potentiometers is normally 20% so the measurement
could be as high as 120,000 W 120kW)  or as low as 80,000W  (80kW)
      b) Identical to the answer in (a)
      c) Should be about ½ of the total resistance measured between the two outer legs.
      d) This will change proportionately to how much you move the knob.

      5.
      6. The same is occurring here as what was charted in table L5-1.
      7. If the potentiometer's resistance is set to ZERO ohms, there would be nothing to eat the extra voltage.  The LED would be hit with much more voltage than it could handle, and would burn out.
